Dunkin’ Domestic

24.03.08 | written by jilske | 2 Comments

Wow, have loads to update you guys on, trips and parties, but first something about the last few days!

I was very tempted to visit Fiji with Clare and Bourkie , however decided wisely to keep my holidays for when Bram is here (and we will be visiting Fraser Island, more about that later). Anyway, so Good Friday and Easter Monday are holidays here in Australia. Especially Good Friday, when everything is closed. Believe me, here in Sydney that’s ultra RARE. Even Wooly, which is normally opened till midnight! Thank god I had to stop at a service station after dropping our world travelers off at the airport and noticed the crowd there so picked up some groceries myself.

So these last few days I’ve been on holiday and what did I do? I stayed at home!!! With finally some chairs, a table and a piano installed, the home cinema system setup, some european plugs replaced and after having entertained several guests, I can safely say I’ve started to get settled and have a bit of a home routine. Believe me, much needed since in my mind I last left home in October. Far from finished as I’m still looking for stuff (dinner table & benches, flatmate, wardrobe, frames,…), but slowly getting there ;-) To give you an idea of what the place looks like now:

Of course the great weather has been helping heaps! By far my most favorite chore now is doing the laundry, something I used to hate. The warm feeling of wonderment each time I carry the basket up to the terrace and the sun kissing my cheeks as I’m hanging up towels…love it!!! Am also having meals, drinks, reading, internet, … up there, basking in the sun, protected of course!

I also finally met up with Bas & Kim for lunch @ the Opera House. They migrated in January as well and I learned it’s not the only thing we have in common :). So guys, especially for you, here’s how to dunk a TimTam (also known as ‘Tim Tam Slam‘):

  1. Buy yourself a pack of TimTam cookies (only available in Australia and New Zealand…)
  2. Bite/Nibble the ends of the cookie just so you can see the inner filling
  3. Put lower end in glass of milk (or coffee, tea, …) and suck it!

Don’t forget to swallow and stop in time to eat the cookie (which is now all soft inside, yumyum). Yes in Belgium we do know how to put a cookie in coffee, but never before did I drink through one ;-)

chicken avocado wrap Another thing I tried yesterday, due to lack of any decent bakeries (ie bread and sandwiches), was making a wrap. This is a tortilla-with-some-filling sandwich. First attempt really! I did a kind of avocado mayonnaise spread (avocado, a bit of mayo, garlic, pepper) since avocado’s are so cheap and yummy here. On top of that chicken, tomato and cheese, spread very thin, almost like decorating a pancake. Then fold it like an envelope and roll it closely and rost it - did I mention I’m a fan of molten cheese?

Oh and I almost forgot to mention the wonderful present I got from my Irish friends. Already made myself a mango smoothie :)

blender
Bram, here’s the recipe: mango (duh), orange (fresh of course), a bit of ginger (everything’s fresh), ice cubes and lemon yoghurt (fresh fresh fresh).

I think that’s enough domestic things for one day. More soon about what happened to my car, trips, gigs and flatmate stuff. Btw, Happy Easter everybody!
